Yes, good oats grow in Australia when the weathers right. Kialla first imported oats from Finland during a drought here, then found some great reasons to keep it up. Not only is the weather more predictable, the Finnish climate is uniquely suited to growing oats with the perfect taste and texture. The Gulf Stream keeps it warmer than other countries so far to the north, but the days during the summer growing season are still mild, usually below 25 degrees. Because of the high latitude, theyre also long, with around 20 hours of sunlight to help the oats grow large and firm. Once theyre harvested, the oats are hulled, steam stabilised and rolled out whole, thick and flat. Terrifically tasty and chewy they are, instant theyre most definitely not - soak them in milk or water overnight prior to cooking them as a porridge or mixing into baked goods.
